Glasgow Green Takes Centre Stage for the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships
A new chapter is being written in the illustrious history of Glasgow Green, the oldest park in the city. Gifted to the citizens of Glasgow by King James II in 1450, the park is all set to host trials royalty at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships this August. Glasgow will see the most skilled and resilient cyclists from around the globe compete for ultimate supremacy in an event filled with anticipation and excitement.
A Fusion of Historic Charm and Modern BMX Competitions
The Championship’s action-packed schedule includes both BMX Freestyle Park and BMX Freestyle Flatland competitions in this iconic park, serving as a perfect blend of Glasgow’s rich history with cutting-edge cycling disciplines.
The adrenaline will kick off with the national team competition, opening the trials action. This will be followed by the individual categories: Men Junior 20″, Men Junior 26″, Men Elite 20″, Men Elite 26″, and Women Elite.
The semi-finals challenge the riders with three laps over a course with five sections, while the finals amp up the pressure with a one-lap format. The riders will be awarded points based on how cleanly they manoeuvre through the obstacles in each gated section, adding an extra layer of strategy to the thrilling competition.
Non-Stop Action at Glasgow Green
On Wednesday, 9 August, the Team Competition will commence. Each team, consisting of 3 to 5 riders from different individual categories, will represent their country. The order of riders is flexible within the team, adding to the strategic depth of the competition. The team with the highest combined scores will be crowned the winners, signalling a thrilling start to the trials at Glasgow Green.
The following two days will feature the individual semi-finals rounds to determine the six riders who will clash in the finals in each category. All eyes will be on Saturday, 12 August, where the finals in all five categories will take place, beginning with Men Junior 20″ at 10.30 am and culminating with Men Elite 26″ at 6.30 pm.
Celebrate the Championship at SugarFall Patisserie

We are excited to announce that throughout August, we will be serving a specially crafted Paris Brest cake – a tribute to the cycling event itself. In two delightful flavours, hazelnut and pistachio, our pastry chefs have meticulously created these cakes to mirror the spirit of the cycling competition.
Named after the iconic Paris–Brest–Paris cycling race, this classic French dessert traditionally represents a bicycle wheel. Our versions, however, do more than just pay homage to the shape; they embody the passion, dedication, and intensity of the championships.
